Throwing a Bachelor Party in Austin

Getting married is one of the most momentous occasions in a man’s life, which means it’s time to celebrate with a bachelor party! Of course, you probably already know that the festivities should fit the groom’s interest and he should get final approval of the guest list. But what else should you be considering?

If you’re throwing a bachelor party in Austin here are a few things to keep in mind.

Pick a Theme to Guide the Festivities

Themes make every party more fun and easier to plan. It gives you direction as far as what events to include, swag to buy and who to invite.

Bachelor party isn’t exactly a theme. In a city like Austin where anything goes, it’s an opportunity to go all out. You can plan a casino themed party, sports-related get together or Viking warrior bash. Even the strangest party themes are fair game as long as the groom-to-be is into the idea.

Timing is Everything

The cardinal rule of bachelor parties (that was hard learned in The Hangover) is never plan a party the night before the wedding. It’s best to have the bachelor party a few weeks to a few months before the big day.

That aside, you’ll need to look at a local event calendar if you’re planning a bachelor party in Austin. The festival schedule could work for or against you depending on whether you want to coordinate the bachelor party with another event. SXSW takes over the city in March, ACL is in the early fall and Formula 1 races happen every October. But those are just a few of the high-profile events.

During these times, and home UT football games, it could be more difficult (and more expensive) to get hotel rooms, book flights and secure venues.

Enjoy the Live Music

What kind of music does the man of honor enjoy? There’s a good chance you’ll find something within the genre being played on any given weekend in Austin.

A live show is the perfect way to relax and take in the sights and sounds of Austin. If you’re looking for live music on the fly you’ll find it up and down 6th Street, the Red River district and at Threadgills, just to name a few places.

Make Physical Activity a Main Event

There’s no shortage of amazing outdoor retreats around Austin. Though it can be hot in the summer, most of the year you’ll find many of the city’s main attractions are outside. If the bachelor party plans to spend a few days in Austin, why not:

●      Play a game of disc golf at the Roy G. Guerrero Disc Golf Course.

●      Go rock climbing at Reimer’s Ranch.

●      Paddle board or kayak Lady Bird Lake and pull right up to a few restaurants on the water.

●      A short round of golf at Butler Park Pitch & Putt.

●      Instead of heading to the hotel pool, make a trip to Barton Springs Pool to see who can do the best jackknife off the old-school spring diving board.

Refrain From Crazy Antics

Austin likes to keep it weird, but crazy antics and dangerous stunts are best left to the Jackass crew. Everybody is there to have fun, but getting arrested or injured is a sure fire way to put a damper on the bachelor party.
